Soul of America is an HBO documentary by Kundhart Films that could not have come at a more relevant moment. Based off of Jon Meacham's 2018 book, we take a peek into his insights about the country's present political climate and how it relates to the past. These themes gave us plenty to build off of when developing the visual language.
Based off of Jon Meacham's 2018 book, we take a peek into his insights about the country's present political climate and how it relates to the past.
We began by selecting reference imagery that sparked dialogue, ideas, likes, dislikes to help form a point of view that felt right. From there we jumped into title designs, exploring varying degrees of distress/degradation to both environment and type, as well as a wide range of type styles.
Landing on a type direction would help inform the rest of our graphics package and inspiration for the overall look.
In addition to creating the film's graphic language - we delivered over 30 newspaper animations, lower thirds, locators and infographics. From statistics to tweets, and everything in between, we created a concise, clean graphic style that the film could use to relay information in the most effective way possible.
We really enjoyed working on this incredibly timely project, thank you to our partners at Kundhart films!
