Empires of New York is an epic new series airing on CNBC that chronicles the power and greed of major figures in 1980s New York. The series covers the likes of Ivan Boesky, John Gotti, Leona Helmsley, Donald Trump, and Rudy Giuliani - and we wanted to feature them prominently in the series open.
Featuring images of our larger-than-life characters, the graphics also nod to the era, using neon lights and colors, and flash transitions that take us from scene to scene.
After pulling reference, we explored several variations of the open- although our ultimate goal was to create a sequence that would capture the immense power of these figures, as well as the grandiosity and showmanship of the time. Featuring images of our larger-than-life characters, the graphics also nod to the era, using neon lights and colors, and flash transitions that take us from scene to scene.
In addition to the main title sequence, we designed and executed an entire graphics package for the series including but not limited to 50+ newspaper headlines per episode, photo sequences, and infographics.
A big thanks to the CNBC team for their partnership throughout!
